Bhutan

The Kingdom of Bhutan lies nestled in the folds of the mighty Himalayas. The national language is Dzongkha, with Buddhism being the dominant religion, and some Hindu. Thimpu is the capital city of this small and remote kingdom. It was only in the early 1970’s tourism began on a limited basis as it emerged from its cloak of secrecy. Bhutan has verdant forests and arresting mountains home to a variety of flora and fauna. The simple lives of the Bhutanese people is reflected in the deep peaceful calm that surrounds it.

The scenery is stunning, with steep forested hills and misty mountains rising from fast flowing rivers, but it is the fascinating culture that makes Bhutan unique. Bhutan is one of the very few areas in the Himalaya where the traditional way of life has remained unchanged by the passage of time. The unusual architecture and national dress demonstrate the people's national pride and governmental policies such as Gross National Happiness are evident in the people’s manner. The superb Dzongs or fortress) scattered in the valleys and on hilltops are full of priceless religious artefacts and there are many monasteries still active today.

The best months to visit Bhutan are between October and March when the weather is dry and generally sunny.

Maldives

This archipelago of 1190 islands and 26 atolls lies in the warm tropical Indian Ocean, surrounded by clear turquoise water and white sandy beaches. This is paradise with magical surrounding the islands is a haven for dive and snorkel enthusiasts. Each resort in the Maldives has its own white beach flowing around the island. The only inhabitants on each island apart from the tourists, is the resort staff.

Activities in the Maldives include diving or snorkelling, island hopping, seaplane excursions, swimming, visiting fishing villages or underwater sightseeing in a Whale Submarine.

Best time to visit:

Temperatures average 27-30oC throughout the year. The peak months to visit are between November – April. May to November are their rainy months, with May/June tending to be the wettest.

Sri Lanka

Magical Sri Lanka is a place of legend, dreams and folklore and continues to fascinate holidaymakers today with its myriad charms. Generally the best time to visit is between October – March as the monsoon season in the south-west and the hills in the central area runs between the end of May to the end of September.
